Timor is our closest neighbour and one of the poorest nations in the world. They have experienced a double whammy....Covid arriving and lockdowns to control spread, and a devastating flood that has left people homeless, hungry and vulnerable. The people of Timor Leste are a resilient bunch but this is too much. I was there volunteering last year until I was sent home due to Covid. I know the Timorese will do everything they can to recover but we owe it them to help out. I call on the Australian Government to set this as a high priority for humanitarian assistance and to assist this young country to avoid deaths from Covid.
