Sydney restriction ease and celebration reaching fully vaccinated target of 70% & 80%
The Issue
Since the start of 2020, Australia has been hit by covid, and its people have suffered a lot until today. However, we could see the light at the end of the tunnel now, and implementing a way to kick start the economy and put Australia back on the international stage would be vital for this country’s future. Hence, I hereby propose the blueprint at two important milestones regarding the vaccination target of New South Wales: fully vaccinated of people aged 16+ at the rate of 70% and 80%.
Stage one: small celebration and restart the hibernated economy effectively.
Restriction ease:
- All the businesses should be able to operate at 50% capability or follow the covid safe measurements. Operation hours should not be restricted.
- Travel distance range restrictions removed with intrastate travel restarted.
Small celebration timeline:
- These activities should be scheduled for the first Saturday after New South Wales has reached 70% fully vaccinated for the age 16+ target.
- 0:00 am: Opera house and harbor bridge being lighted by projections, including a salute to frontline workers and a tribute to those lost lives because of covid. Businesses could operate after this time, such as midnight bars and movie theaters.
- 6:00 am: People should be able to travel freely within New South Wales. First train and first flight to regional centers departed at this time.
- 9:00 am: Localized small celebration activities started. This could include a lineup at shopping malls and barbeque gatherings at parks.
Stage two: grand celebration and put covid memory into history.
Restriction ease:
- All the businesses should be able to operate at 100% capacity, and covid safe measurements are no longer mandatory.
- Quarantine free interstate travel and international travel restarted. New South Wales border is open to anyone who travels from overseas with valid documents. The 14-day quarantine measure stays until every state in Australia has reached the 80% vaccination target.
Grand celebration timeline:
- These activities should be scheduled for the first Saturday after New South Wales has reached 80% fully vaccinated for the age 16+ target.
- Sunrise time: First nation people ceremony at Sydney royal botanic garden. Invited people to witness the first sunlight at different vantage points around Sydney harbor.
- 6:00 am: First international flight depart and landing at Sydney airport. Quarantine free interstate travel kick-started by Qantas 787.
- 6:30 - 8:00 am: Harbor bridge closed for cars. One five-kilometer running race passing the opera house, royal botanic garden, and harbor bridge started.
- 8:30 am: Three-minute stand still for those who have suffered and lost lives due to covid. Cars, Ferries, and Trains horn throughout this period.
- 9:00 am: All the businesses could operate at 100% capacity without any restriction measures. Big lineups at major shopping malls and large-scale celebration activities such as outdoor concerts started at local parks.
- 10:00 am: Locomotive 3801 with full loaded passenger carriages pass harbor bridge. Antique cars array pass the harbor bridge with the 3801 steam engine. HMAS Canberra (L02) docked at the overseas passenger terminal.
- 10:30 am: Ferry race passing the harbor bridge with people climbing on the top of the harbor bridge looking downwards.
- 11:00 am: Yacht ballet at the front of circular quay water with water jet-packed people moving around. Boeing CH-47 Chinook with Australian flag hanged fly pass CBD, Sydney harbor, and major suburbs.
- 12:00 am: Qantas A380 flies past harbor bridge with twelve Lockheed Martin F-35A Lightning II formulated into a triangle following behind.
- 12:00 am - 2:00 pm: Harbour parade at Sydney harbor with all kinds of vessels welcomed to join. Hot balloons float above the city skyscrapers.
- 2:30 pm: Parachute display above opera house landing at the royal botanic garden. Tall ships race begin at the darling harbor, and they will pass the harbor bridge and head to the north head.
- 3:00 pm - 5:30 pm: People parade on main city roads. Shopping malls reach full capacity. HMAS Canberra (L02) leave the overseas passenger terminal and slowly move in the Sydney harbor towards its usual dock point.
- 5:45 pm: Australia should have entered all major international news agencies.
- Sunset time: Opera house and harbor bridge being lit by colorful lights. Projections are also being made at skyscrapers.
- 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm: Big music festival being held at the royal botanic garden. Darling harbor turns colorful again, and restaurants there reach full capacity.
- 9:00 pm: Eight-minute firework being played at harbor bridge, Opera house, and darling harbor. Sydney harbor should be filled with yachts and cruise operators. Helicopters are floating in the night sky and project light beams to the Australia flag at the top of the harbor bridge.
Such activities could also be scheduled at other state capital cities once they have reached the 70% and 80% vaccination targets. This is my brainstormed version of what should happen for New South Wales alone. Many advantages could be associated with this arrangement. The economy could get kick-started. Strong motivation could be provided to let those who have used to stay at home get out. Australia would gain unprecedented international publicity and be ready to integrate into the world again.
Once a lineup like this is planned, people will hurry to get vaccinated, and Australia’s vaccination progress will soon look like a rocket launched.
