Stop Corona Virus from happening again - Ban Wildlife Wet Markets Globally
The issue
"To petition the Australian Government to introduce a UN Resolution to Ban Wildlife Wet Markets globally, stopping incidents like Corona Virus from occurring again."
The Corona Virus has a high mortality rate of 15% for the elderly, as of the date of writing this petition, with more than 341,000 cases and 14,000 deaths worldwide.
Prevention is better than Cure, without stopping the activities that led to the virus it is likely this will happen again. The infamous activity is the wildlife wet markets which not only exists in China, but also Thailand, South America, Africa and other parts in the world.
The world is more inter-connected than ever before with viruses easily being able to jump borders with more travelers from every country than ever seen before. Though the economic benefits are extraordinary the health concerns, if left unchecked, will lead to this situation again.
Viruses are known to cross over at time to time from animals to humans. The wildlife wet markets are not only cruel and unnatural but also an unnatural way for wildlife to meet and transmit diseases to each other that would otherwise not occur in the wild.
Animals from all different countries are gathered in wet markets, taken to a butcher and often kept in the most unhygienic circumstances. Myself, friends and others working overseas have seen these wet-markets personally. Governments mention generally they will do something about it but not enough has ever been done.
Historically, Wet markets were a means to survive in times of great famine and state-disaster or state-collapse. Sadly, in these times, governments and international organisations have the means to provide food needed meaning that Wet-markets essentially are a delicacy for the elite.
Please sign the petition, protect the wildlife and also protect the health of your loved ones in Australia and overseas. The actions of individuals makes a community. And it is our responsibility to learn from this situation and do the right thing as a global community. Action is not only needed for China, it is needed by the global community as there are legal and illegal wildlife wet markets across the world.
