  1. Thank you for taking the time to read through my petition.

With the current mental health system broken, hospitals need to change their policies and procedures of how they care for women who have gone through miscarriage or stillbirth.

Losing a baby is one of the most hardest moments parents have to go through in their lives without our medical staff in Australia placing grieving women in rooms with pregnant women or women whom have just had their newborns and the cries of their newborns filling the ears of those who’ve lost their babies no matter their gestation.

Hearing those words, “sorry but your baby has passed” is so devastating for both mother and father without having to worry about their mental state being taken for a ride.

The Australian Healthcare System really needs to rethink how to care for women suffering a loss. With recent experience, being admitted into surgery for a D&C ( Dilation and curettage) the hospital staff took no awareness to my mental state. Being placed in a waiting room with pregnant women then being placed in the recovery room with women who just had a c-section and holding their newborns crying. I have since heard many more of the same experiences or worse by women who had their mental and emotional wellbeing unnoticed by staff causing trauma and making their healing longer and more painful emotionally.

I want every Parent, Woman, Man, Grandparents, Aunties, Uncles and so forth to stand with me and make ourselves heard and to raise awareness for Hospitals that our mental state and emotions matter, that we are not okay with the way women are treated in hospitals when it comes to miscarriage and stillbirth.

I wish for the Department of Health to hear our plea, please consider placing those who are vulnerable in seperate waiting rooms to those whom are pregnant. When placed in a ward for the time of their stay, please place those who are vulnerable in a room where they cannot hear crying newborns down the hall.

Our Mental Health System has already failed us, please don’t let our Healthcare System fail us also.

We need to be heard.

Thank You.
