This Saturday 18th of May Is the Federal Election.
We felt it was important to highlight to everyone who has signed this petition the parties & candidates, that are supportive of changes to medical device regulation in Australia.
Although we may not like everything these politicians or their parties stand for, it is important to know which parties will support the changes to medical device regulation that we are all fighting for.
If you would like to support these parties and candidates please see below on how to vote.
Senator Derryn Hinch (Derryn Hinch’s Justice Party): Vote 1 above the line for Victoria Senate
Senator Derryn Hinch instigated the senate inquiry into Transvaginal Mesh in 2017.
He has called Transvaginal Mesh “the biggest medical scandal for women in Australia since the baby-deforming Thalidomide medical cover-up disaster in the 1960s”.
He has also recommend changes to medical device regulation that include;
*The setting up of a national registry for all high-risk implantable devices
*Implant cards for all patients.
*Mandatory reporting of adverse events by medical practitioners.
Skye Kakoschke-Moore (Centre Alliance): Vote 1 - above the line for South Australia Senate
‘The Transvaginal mesh inquiry was one of the most heart wrenching experiences I had in my time in the Senate.’
‘Medical device regulation is an issue I feel strongly about not only from my time on transvaginal mesh inquiry, but also from my time working for Nick Xenophon when we worked on issues concerning PiP breast implants and Du Poy hip replacements. So many lives impacted with so few protections for consumers and repercussions for regulators and device manufacturers.’
Senator Larissa Waters (The Australian Greens): Vote 1 above the line for Queensland Senate
‘Medical device regulation is an issue I feel strongly about, as an issue that disproportionately affects women. I will work hard to ensure protections for consumers and high standards for regulators and device manufacturers. I want to see the Senate inquiry’s recommendations made a reality.’ We truly cannot thank her enough for her support and passion. We really do need her in the senate.
Senator Jordon Steele-John (The Australian Greens): Vote 1- above the line for Western Australia Senate
‘Senator Jordon Steele-John who is up for re-election ‘is in solidarity with your organisation and your mission, to raise awareness of Surgical Mesh Implants – Jordon (and the Australian Greens as a whole) support changes to medical device regulation.’
Senator Meereen Faruqi (The Australian Greens): vote 1 - above the line for New South Wales Senate.
‘The Australian Greens support changes to medical device regulation
