To provide an alternative to Australia Day that all Australians can celebrate. A day that is not tied to any historical date but is tied to the season.

For instance: First Friday in February 

This floating date always ensures a long weekend :) and is not tied to any historical date/event.

DECISION MAKER

Technically, Prime Minister and Cabinet then Parliament but they will only move if the real decision makers – the Australian people – want to make it happen.

COMPELLING REASON

Australia Day will always be a day of mourning for the First Nations of this country and has very little resonance with the vast majority of migrants and their children. We cannot forever exclude our First Nations from celebrating this great nation and we need to recognise all those Australians of non-British heritage so we need a day that unites us and allows us to celebrate this wonderful country as one people.
