Viele von euch fragen, warum wir nach unserer Petition nun eine Europäische Bürgerinitiative gestartet haben.
Hier die Erklärung:
Unsere Petition mit über 74.000 Unterschriften zum Schutz von Straßenhunden und -katzen wurde auf EU-Ebene ohne öffentliche Anhörung geschlossen.
Das hat bei uns – und bei vielen Unterstützerinnen und Unterstützern – große Enttäuschung ausgelöst.
👉 Deshalb haben wir zwei konkrete Schritte unternommen:
1️⃣ Beschwerde bei der Europäischen Ombudsfrau
Wir haben die Europäische Ombudsfrau angeschrieben und um Prüfung gebeten, da eine Petition mit so vielen Unterstützern aus unserer Sicht eine stärkere öffentliche Behandlung verdient hätte.
2️⃣ Einreichung einer Europäischen Bürgerinitiative (EBI)
Zusätzlich haben wir eine Europäische Bürgerinitiative zur Registrierung bei der EU-Kommission eingereicht.
Dieses Instrument gibt Bürgerinnen und Bürgern die Möglichkeit, konkrete Gesetzesvorschläge auf EU-Ebene anzustoßen.
🐾 Unser Ziel bleibt unverändert:
Der Schutz von Straßenhunden und -katzen, das Ende von Tötungen aus Tierschutzgründen und die Bindung von EU-Geldern und Handelsvorteilen an Tierschutzstandards – auch in Drittstaaten.
Die Bürgerinitiative wurde inzwischen juristisch angepasst, damit sie im Rahmen der EU-Zuständigkeiten geprüft werden kann.
Der Schutz der Straßentiere steht dabei weiterhin im Mittelpunkt.

Why we took this step – a brief explanation
Many of you are asking why, after our petition, we have now launched a European Citizens’ Initiative.
Our petition with more than 74,000 signatures calling for the protection of street dogs and cats was closed at EU level without a public hearing.
This was deeply disappointing for us and for many supporters.
👉 Therefore, we took two concrete steps:
1️⃣ We contacted the European Ombudsman
We submitted a complaint to the European Ombudsman, asking for a review, as we believe that a petition supported by so many people deserved greater public consideration.
2️⃣ We submitted a European Citizens’ Initiative (ECI)
In addition, we submitted a European Citizens’ Initiative for registration with the European Commission.
This instrument allows citizens to call on the EU to take legislative action within its competences.
🐾 Our goal remains unchanged:
Protection of street dogs and cats, an end to killings for so-called population control, and making EU funding and trade advantages conditional on animal welfare standards – including in third countries.
The initiative has been legally adapted to fall within EU competences.
The protection of street animals remains at its core.

Pourquoi nous avons franchi cette étape – une brève explication
Nombre d’entre vous se demandent pourquoi, après notre pétition, nous avons lancé une Initiative citoyenne européenne.
Notre pétition ayant recueilli plus de 74 000 signatures pour la protection des chiens et chats des rues a été clôturée au niveau de l’UE sans audition publique.
Cela a été une grande déception pour nous et pour de nombreux soutiens.
👉 C’est pourquoi nous avons entrepris deux démarches concrètes :
1️⃣ Saisine de la Médiatrice européenne
Nous avons saisi la Médiatrice européenne afin qu’elle examine cette procédure, estimant qu’une pétition soutenue par autant de citoyens méritait une prise en compte publique plus large.
2️⃣ Dépôt d’une Initiative citoyenne européenne (ICE)
Nous avons également soumis une Initiative citoyenne européenne à la Commission européenne.
Cet instrument permet aux citoyens de demander des actions législatives dans le cadre des compétences de l’UE.
🐾 Notre objectif reste inchangé :
La protection des chiens et chats des rues, la fin des mises à mort au nom du contrôle des populations, et le conditionnement des financements et avantages commerciaux de l’UE au respect de normes de protection animale, y compris dans les pays tiers.
L’initiative a été juridiquement adaptée pour respecter les compétences de l’UE.
La protection des animaux des rues reste au cœur de notre engagement.
