International Movement for Peace and CoexistenceBelgium
Mar 15, 2019

Thanks for your action, and your comments (we read every one; those from Survivors are very powerful).

This is what is happening next:

  1. We wrote this morning to Audrey Azoulay's chef de cabinet, Nicolas Kassianides, asking for a meeting next week so that we can present to her the printed petition with all signatures and comments.
  2. Why next week? There is a meeting of the Bureau of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage (sic) on March 21. This body can remove the status which the Aalst Carnaval does not merit.
  3. The six Bureau members are: Colombia (Chair), Austria, Palestine, Poland, Philippines, and Zambia.
  4. Our partner UK Lawyers for Israel (who helped us write the petition text) have issued a press release. UKLFI remain committed to pursuing this case.

Meanwhile we have also partnered with StandWithUs so that people can send an automated email letter to the Belgian Justice Minister. 3500 have done so already. It would be great if you could do the same (takes a few seconds) by clicking the link ^. The more letters, the more pressure we can exert.
