Mahurangi College is calling on Auckland Transport to install crossing lights on the pedestrian crossing closest to SH1.

Woodcock's Road has a large and increasing traffic volume. Students from Mahurangi College use two crossings, one located at either end of the campus. As traffic has built, so have near misses, which are reported by staff, students and the community on a near daily basis. We desperately need traffic lights to be installed at this crossing to enable students to cross safely. This is the crossing that is most used by students. These lights could be phased to give longer crossing times and shorter wait times at the start and end of the day as students arrive at and depart from school.

Businesses on Woodcock's Road have also voiced concern, with staff frequently witnessing near misses. Sun strike is often a factor as well, particularly during winter, and when mixed with inattentive drivers and distracted teenagers, the potential for a serious accident is extremely high. Installing crossing lights will help to reduce risk to students.
