150 signatures in just four days - that's an amazing response and more than I anticipated. There is obviously a real depth of feeling around this topic - thanks for all your thoughtful comments.
I emailed a personal submission to the Auckland Council last week - today I've sent a follow-up email including a link to this petition. If you feel strongly in support of Basque Park becoming an off-leash area, I'd encourage you to also email your own personal submission. Here are some suggested contacts:
waitematalocalboard@aucklandcouncil.govt.nz - The local board is likely to become the deciding body on the use of parks after feedback on the region-wide dog access rules closes.
pippa.coom@aucklandcouncil.govt.nz - Waitemata local board chair.
adriana.a.christie@aucklandcouncil.govt.nz - Waitemata local board member, holding the parks portfolio.

Mike Lee is the Councillor for the Waitemata and Gulf ward. Decisions on the use of parks still sit with the Auckland Council at this point, so it's worth letting him know what we'd like as well. Feel free to link to this petition!
We also have two Facebook groups running for those who are interested:
Dogs of Mt Eden is an open group for discussion and promotion of all things doggy in the Mt Eden area. Some discussion about Basque takes place there as well: https://www.facebook.com/groups/351473858928951/
The Basque Park Off-Leash group is a closed group (ask to be added) for more strategic talk and updates for users of Basque Park: https://www.facebook.com/groups/301649337363668/
Thanks again to everyone for your support so far!
