Prevent Child Head Injuries Hungry Jacks. Replace all Corrugated Metal on your Playgrounds
The issue
On the 6th August 2016 one of our 2yr 7mth old twin daughters sustained a deep cut to her forehead above her left eye falling from a higher platform to a lower level corrugated metal platform on the Hungry Jacks Morayfield Playground. She was bleeding profusely and required an ambulance to Caboolture Hospital for stitches under sedation and monitoring for signs of a serious head injury. Who puts a metal corrugated platform on children's playground equipment???? Our children played on the playground while being closely monitored by their parents. We believe that had this playground platform surface been made of a soft fall surface our daughter would have walked away with a bruise to her head instead of the deep gash to her forehead and the traumatic events that followed. We spent 5 hours in the emergency department at the Caboolture Hospital with our 2yr 7mth old twin daughters in the same area with adults who were intoxicated, swearing, verbally aggressive and being guarded by police. Our injured daughter didn't receive pain relief for over an hour after her injury. She was hysterical during the painful and scary procedure of inserting the drip line into her hand and two attempts were required. It was very upsetting for her twin sister and her parents to watch our beautiful girl screaming in pain and fear. She was sedated to receive 3 stitches which will leave a facial scar and there are always risks with sedation. We were terrified that our daughter had sustained a serious head injury and the angst we felt watching our daughter in so much pain and fear from a preventable injury was agonising. We hold Hungry Jacks Morayfield responsible for having corrugated metal on a children's playground platform instead of a soft fall surface. This matter has been referred to WH&S Qld.Atul Sharma CEO of Hungry Jacks Australia please inspect ALL of your playgrounds and replace the corrugated metal platforms with soft fall surfaces to prevent further injuries like our young daughter sustained or worse. This was our family’s first week off together in over a year and the first half of it was spent in an emergency room and GP offices seeing our daughter suffer through no fault of our own. Hungry Jacks do the right thing by our daughter and the right thing by other children.
