Responded
Thank you for your correspondence regarding the recent decision of the Court of Appeal in reducing the sentence applied for the murder of Detective Inspector Bryson Anderson by Mitchell Barbieri. I understand there are strong community concerns about the Criminal Court of Appeal decision and just after the decision I spoke with the Director of Public Prosecutions Lloyd Babb about the judgment. He is reviewing the case. I have also spoken to Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione about the case. Yesterday I spoke with Detective Inspector Bryson Anderson’s widow, Donna and his brother Warwick to express my condolences on their loss and inform them of the process moving forward. As there is the possibility of an appeal to the High Court regarding the sentence, it is properly now a matter for decision by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions. Thank you for taking the time to raise your concerns with me.
