Attorney General: serial rapist Dennis Lyddieth shouldn't have been released – reverse this outrageous decision
The issue
Despite a judge deeming him a "truly dreadful menace to young women" and saying he's at high risk of re-offending, serial rapist Dennis Lyddieth has just been released from prison – and into my family's neighbourhood.
After 13 counts of indecent assaults, his release on parole in 2002 saw him re-offend seven times within 5-6 months before being re-jailed. He's even said that he doesn't see rape as a violent crime, and wants to be known as a "nice rapist".
Now this man is living just around the corner in our community. I've got a teenage daughter and I shudder at the thought of my daughter, or someone else's, encountering this "nice rapist".
I believe in second chances for some criminals, but he targeted women alone at night to rape them at knifepoint because of his delusional thinking. I feel sorry for him if he's that messed up but I feel much more sorry for his victims and the community - sexual assault is a heinous crime, with devastating consequences for the mental, emotional and physical health of victims.
He’s a repeat offender and we must draw the line and value the safety of the community above the freedoms of such a horrific offender.
Please help me demand the Attorney General Michael Minchin reverse the outrageous decision to release this violent repeat sexual offender into the community.
