The Walker County Animal Shelter in Chickamauga GA is a government run facility that serves the 450 square miles of Walker County in North GA. This shelter has an intake of around 100 pets every week which works out to around 5000 cats and dogs annually.

This shelter Management does not post the shelter-pets for adoption in either pet-finder/adopt-a-pet sites though they have accounts in both. Alternatively there are no dedicated website for the shelter with active updating of pets available either. 

This shelter had a kill-rate of 90% as per Shelter Director Alison Smith herself stated in Jan 2007 in WALKER COUNTY MESSENGER. 

As per latest reports the Shelter is euthanizing 95% of the shelter-pets currently. 

This sky-high kill-rate can definitely be reduced greatly by posting pictures of the pets in petfinder and other links. Networkers/rescuers can see the pet and assist on facebook, twitter and other social media to get adoptions/rescues

Please ask the Shelter management to take intake pictures of the pets and post them on pet-finder and adopt-a pet sites for saving many innocent lives at this shelter. It would also help the shelter-pets if the Shelter would adopt Rescue-friendly policies and assist Rescues to save many lives here.
