Bring Lightning Fast Internet to the Town of Lapel, Indiana

The Issue

Problem
This may sound petty or perhaps even selfish but everyone needs high speed internet with no data cap these days as everything has to be done online.

I am seeking to bring actual high speed internet to the Town of Lapel and get it moving into the 21st century.

In 2015 the US government classified high speed internet as 25mbs or more. https://www.nbcnews.com/tech/internet/faster-internet-fcc-sets-new-definition-broadband-speeds-n296276

In the Town of Lapel only one internet provider offers higher than 20mbs and that is a DSL connection via CenturyLink.

Whether you can get this speed or not depends on many factors but a lot of people are only able to receive 10mbs or less.

The other internet providers which include Swayzee a local Cable company, BridgeMaxx a wireless internet company typically offer 10mbs or less and whether you can get those speeds also depends on where you live, and service is not necessarily available everywhere.

Solution
We the people of Lapel need to approach a large internet company such as AT&T to bring one of two things to the Town of Lapel.

Fiber internet which could be bored under the ground OR where possible installed on utility poles. This process is quite expensive and in the past other companies have decided against it.

The other alternative which I think has huge potential is the 5th Generation or 5G internet.

AT&T is already planning to roll 5G out to Indianapolis and Anderson and with us being a mere 10 miles away from Anderson I am optimistic that AT&T would consider extending their coverage in our direction or building new infrastructure in Lapel to make it happen.

If you have a cell phone you likely have a 4G internet connection, 5G is the next evolution in internet technology and will in the coming years be available on mobile devices and through the use of hotspots or "pucks".

5G could achieve multi-GB speeds in theory but is likely to offer speeds of 100mb or faster for most users and it seems most providers are looking at no data limits compared to 4G which typically has them.

With this kind of speed Lapel would join the 21st century and offer another reason for folks to live in this Town beyond the excellent School system and the small Town community spirit that exists here.

With your support I know we can make it happen!

Personal story
My name is Daniel Paull and I have lived in this Town for 10 years, over that time I have worn many hats ranging from Online Newspaper Guy to IT Guy, to Town News Guy.

One of the things that has frustrated me in this Town is the lack of decent internet, no one company has really invested in bringing high speed, affordable and cap free internet to us.

Yes we are a farming community but everything has to be done online now, and with a family trying to share even the highest speed internet we can realistically get right now makes for a fun and challenge day of buffering.

Think of the businesses that would consider moving into the SR13 corridor south of Lapel if they knew they could get reliable high speed internet.

I own an IT business and it is painful to visit customers in Town and wait on basic Windows updates that can take 2 - 3 hours to download when high speed internet could do it in seconds.
