Bishopton FC have petitioned the council to invest some of the recently announced £800k investment in all weather surfaces for renfrewshire in Bishopton. 

It's widely recognised that per head Bishopton has far less sporting facilities compared to other Renfrewshire towns & Villages. Bishopton has 550 players and 125 club officials (volunteers). We currently have to travel outwith renfrewshire boundaries or rely on expensive private hire pitches for 20 hours on 1/3rd of a full pitch every week. We also have unmet demand of about 7 hours where we simply cannot get a pitch hire anywhere.

With the influx of children into the area and the growth of our girls section this demand is expected to grow year on year.

Option 1 - BAE have committed £100k to the upgrade of Newton Road playing fields (top Park). The council are in ownership of these funds already and have been for some time. We propose that this money along with some of the £800k announced in the budget be used to install 4g astro at the site.

Option 2 - Dargavel Primary has a type 2 MUGA surface 7 aside pitch. This is unsuitable to play football on. Infact it seems unsuitable for children to use in general. It's firm, slippy and leads to injuries. We propose if the money can't be found to convert newton road then the conversion of dargavel MUGA to 4G astro would be a compromise.

Unfortunately option 2 wouldn't meet the full demand but it would help to fill the gap in the unmet demand currently. With th new primary due a full 11 a side pitch in 2027 that would cover most of our demand.
