Subject: Humble Appeal to Declare the Devastating Flood in Assam as a National Calamity and Extend Immediate Relief
Hon'ble Prime Minister,
I write to you with folded hands on behalf of countless flood-affected families of Upper Assam who are enduring one of the most devastating humanitarian crises in recent years.
The relentless floods have submerged vast stretches of villages, towns, agricultural lands, schools, and public infrastructure across Upper Assam. Thousands of families have been displaced from their homes and are now living in temporary shelters with limited access to safe drinking water, food, sanitation, healthcare, and essential medicines. Elderly people, women, children, and persons with disabilities are facing immense hardship, while countless farmers have lost their crops, livestock, and their only means of livelihood.
Beyond the visible destruction lies an even deeper crisis—the loss of dignity, hope, and security for thousands of citizens who now struggle each day simply to survive. Community volunteers and civil society organizations are extending every possible support, but the scale of the disaster has far exceeded local capacities.
In this hour of unprecedented distress, we earnestly request the Government of India to kindly consider declaring the present flood situation in Assam as a National Calamity. Such recognition would enable stronger institutional support, accelerated financial assistance, and coordinated rehabilitation efforts for the affected people.
We also humbly appeal for immediate central intervention through enhanced relief measures, restoration of critical infrastructure, livelihood support for affected families, strengthening of health services, and long-term flood mitigation initiatives to build resilience in this flood-prone region.
Sir, the people of Assam have always stood with the nation in every challenge. Today, they look towards your compassionate leadership with hope and faith. Your timely intervention will not only provide relief to those suffering but also restore confidence among thousands of families who have lost almost everything.
We sincerely pray for your kind consideration and immediate action in the interest of humanity.
With highest regards,
Yours faithfully,
Manash Pratim Dihingia
