The residents, businesses, and visitors of Elmira recognize the vital role trees play in our downtown. Trees make our core more welcoming—inviting people to spend more time, support local businesses, and strengthen our community.

On Tuesday, March 10, Woolwich Council voted to proceed with a simple repaving of Arthur Street that excludes the opportunity for meaningful street enhancements, including tree planting, for at least a decade—and likely much longer.

We urge Council to reconsider this decision and incorporate tree planting into the Arthur Street project before construction begins. This is a rare opportunity to invest in a healthier, more vibrant, and more livable downtown.
