Ask Vinted to add adapted clothing category
The Issue
When my baby James was born with an upper limb difference, I quickly realized how challenging it is to find comfortable, practical, and affordable clothing for him, especially second-hand which is our preference. It's not just about looking good, it's about finding clothes that empower James to learn how to do things 'his way' without unnecessary struggles, like bulky clothes or rolled sleeves constantly coming undone. Being able to easily share and source James' second-hand adapted clothing with other similarly-abled babies through a portal like Vinted would make a huge difference for us but especially for HIM!
This struggle of finding appropriate clothing is shared by many families across the UK who are looking for more inclusive solutions for their children with disabilities. In the UK alone, over 525,000 children live with a physical disability. Children grow so quickly, making the purchase of new clothing a frequent necessity. However, for children with limb differences, the lack of accessible second-hand clothing options drives parents to spend more than necessary or resort to customizing ill-fitting clothes, which takes up a lot of time and money in itself.
This is where companies, like Vinted, can step in and make a meaningful impact. Vinted is a leading online marketplace for buying and selling second-hand clothes. UK resale fashion is growing rapidly with kids-wear being the fastest-growing second-hand category. By creating a specific category for second-hand clothing adapted for children with limb differences and other disabilities, Vinted will not only be addressing a significant need but will also be setting a precedent in inclusivity in the online retail sector. This change can reduce the environmental impact of the clothing industry, support parents' budgets, and more importantly, allow children with disabilities to have clothes that suit their needs and dignity.
Inclusive clothing is not just a necessity; it's a right. By adding such a category, Vinted can help ensure all children feel comfortable and empowered, regardless of their differences.
After having contacted them previously and not receiving any real answer, join me in urging Vinted to be a pioneer in adaptive second-hand fashion by giving children like James and millions across the UK the clothing options they deserve. Please sign this petition to help make a change.
