Ban single-use plastic bags in Victoria, BC

The Issue

Plastic bags are polluting our oceans, killing tens of thousands of birds and marine animals each year. They are typically used once or twice for short time before they become waste, and often litter.

Coastal communities are ideal locations for single-use plastic bag bans as plastic pollution in the ocean is especially hard to address. As you read this, there is a growing mass of plastic trash circulating around the Pacific Gyre in the Pacific Ocean!

The idea behind banning single use plastic bags is to promote the use of re-useable shopping bags.  For these reasons and many others, I, the undersigned, am in support of a bylaw to effectively ban the use of single-use plastic checkout bags in Victoria, BC.
