Ask the United States Government to consider making insulin a federally produced drug

The Issue

Insulin is a life-saving drug that millions of Americans rely on to manage their diabetes. Unfortunately, the cost of insulin has skyrocketed in recent years, making it unaffordable for many people who need it. This has led to tragic consequences, including people rationing their insulin and even dying as a result.

We believe that the United States government should consider making insulin a federally produced drug. By doing so, the government could help ensure that everyone who needs insulin can afford it.

According to a report by the Health Care Cost Institute, the average price of insulin nearly tripled between 2002 and 2013. This trend has only continued in recent years, with some patients paying hundreds or even thousands of dollars per month for their medication.

This is unacceptable. No one should have to choose between buying food or paying rent and buying life-saving medication like insulin.

By producing insulin at the federal level, we could potentially reduce costs and make this vital medication more accessible to those who need it most. The government already produces other medications through programs like Medicare Part D; why not add insulin to this list?

We urge our elected officials to consider this proposal seriously and take action on behalf of all Americans who depend on affordable access to life-saving medications like insulin.
