Ask the Australian Government to do more in response to the invasion of Ukraine

Dear Prime Minister,
I am writing regarding the Australian Government’s response to the current war in Ukraine.
I was born in Ukraine and have called Australia home since 2001. I have voted in three Australian federal elections and as an Australian citizen am imploring you to make more decisive action towards the Russian invasion.
The war in Ukraine is not only an illegal and unprovoked assault on the Ukrainian sovereignty and people, it is also an attack on world peace and stability. We find ourselves today in a new global security paradigm. The Russian Federation has the biggest nuclear weapons arsenal and president Putin has shown that he will use physical force whatever the cost.
Now is the time for the Australian Government to show to the world in a more concrete way that it stands for freedom and peace.
I therefore ask the Morrison Government to take the following actions:
1. Deliver humanitarian aid to Ukraine by air, to a safe port near the Ukrainian border and assist the host country to distribute it into the war zone. Showing up with our aid is much more powerful than the financial assistance via intermediaries; it will embolden others to follow.
2. Deliver more weapons and training to Ukraine. Ukraine is the only country fighting the Russian and Belorussian armies right now. If the Putin’s aggression is not stopped here, we all risk a much bigger conflict with worldwide repercussions.
3. Sanction and freeze assets of the Belorussian leadership and the inner circle of the president Lukashenko to the maximum extent permissible. Belorussian involvement in the conflict should not be overlooked.
4. Close the Australian airspace and waters to Russian and Belorussian owned, and registered vessels and aircraft. It’s an important gesture of solidarity with the countries which have closed their skies and borders to the aggressor state.
5. Assist Europeans in decreasing their reliance on the Russian energy. Using diplomatic efforts and trade missions, promote Australian firms which built local LNG processing capacity as viable partners in Germany’s push to build LNG import terminals. In the short-term, Australian gas and coal companies can provide Europeans with one more option to quickly increase energy stockpiles.
6. Publicly ask India as a member of the QUAD to provide a formal and clear response as to where it stands on the war in Ukraine. Right now, is not the time to have allies who are wavering or shivering.
7. Lobby United Nations member states to amend the UN charter and remove the Russian Federation as a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council. Russia’s military aggression in Ukraine and warnings of “unimaginable consequences to anyone who intervenes”, make its position as a permanent member of the Security Council untenable.
8. Expel the Russian ambassador and other high-ranking representatives from Canberra to send an unmistakeable signal that Australia does not support the invasion of Ukraine.
