Ask SkipTheDishes to Stand With Oilers Fans
The Issue
The Oilers have heard from their fans. Now their sponsors need to hear from their customers.
Tens of thousands of people have already signed Mama Stanley's petition asking the Edmonton Oilers to reconsider their decision to sign Alex Formenton.
This petition is about what comes next.
You can only sign a petition once. But you don't only have one way to make your voice heard.
We're asking fans to keep the conversation growing, take another action, and show the Edmonton Oilers that their decisions can have consequences beyond social media.
WHY ARE WE DOING THIS?
Because this is bigger than one player.
Alex Formenton was acquitted. This petition isn't challenging that verdict.
It's about the culture of hockey and the relationship between the Edmonton Oilers and their fans.
For years, fans have watched the Oilers make controversial decisions involving people including Evander Kane and current general manager Stan Bowman. These situations are different, but each has forced fans to ask questions about the culture and values of the organization they support.
For some fans, particularly women and survivors of sexual violence or trauma, these conversations are deeply personal.
Fans have told the Oilers that this matters.
The goal now is to make that message impossible to ignore.
Mama Stanley's petition got people talking. This petition builds on it.
And we hope people keep finding new ways to peacefully make themselves heard.
WHAT ARE WE DOING?
We're starting with SkipTheDishes.
SkipTheDishes is a prominent Edmonton Oilers sponsor. Its logo is displayed directly on Oilers helmets during road games.
That matters.
Companies sponsor sports teams because they want fans to see their logos and associate their brands with teams they care about.
But association works both ways.
When we see Skip on an Oilers helmet, we're supposed to remember SkipTheDishes.
Now we do.
We're asking SkipTheDishes to hear its customers, raise these concerns directly with the Edmonton Oilers, publicly address its continued partnership, and reconsider that relationship if the Oilers refuse to listen.
Until then, we're asking people who agree:
Don't Skip the conversation. Skip the app.
Use DoorDash. Use Uber Eats. Order directly from the restaurant.
Take your business somewhere else.
HOW CAN I HELP?
You don't have to do everything.
But every action matters more when thousands of people take it together.
1. SIGN MAMA STANLEY'S PETITION
Add your name to the original call asking the Edmonton Oilers to reconsider the Formenton signing.
2. SIGN THIS PETITION
Tell SkipTheDishes that its relationship with the Edmonton Oilers now affects your relationship with Skip.
3. TELL SKIP WHY
Contact SkipTheDishes through its customer support (Need Help) Live Chat Feature. At the top of their main web page and in the mobile application.
Ask them to document your feedback and pass it to the appropriate corporate team.
4. STOP USING SKIPTHEDISHES
Delete the app. Use another service or order directly from restaurants.
5. SHARE BOTH PETITIONS
Keep the conversation moving.
One signature matters.
One message matters.
One deleted app matters.
One person choosing where their money goes matters.
But thousands of people doing all of those things together becomes impossible to dismiss as noise on social media.
DON'T KNOW WHAT TO SAY TO SKIP?
Copy and paste this:
I'm a SkipTheDishes customer, and I'm choosing to take my business elsewhere because of your sponsorship relationship with the Edmonton Oilers.
The Oilers' decision to sign Alex Formenton crossed a line for me. I'm asking SkipTheDishes to listen to the concerns being raised by Oilers fans, communicate those concerns directly to the organization, and reconsider its partnership if the Oilers refuse to listen.
Until then, I'll be spending my money somewhere else.
I'm not blaming the person receiving this message. Please document why I've chosen to leave and pass my feedback to the appropriate team. Thank you.
KEEP THE PRESSURE GROWING
This isn't about harassing players, employees, drivers, restaurants or customer-support workers.
It's about fans using the peaceful tools available to them: their voices, their attention and their money.
The story shouldn't end with one petition.
It should become a story about a fan base that refused to stop speaking when something mattered to them.
Sign this one.
Tell Skip.
Delete the app.
Share the message.
And if there's another peaceful way to make yourself heard, use it.
The Oilers have heard us.
Now show them we're not going away.
SIGN. SPEAK. SWITCH. SHARE.
