Ask our candidates: “As governor, would you support medically accurate sex education?”

The Issue

Last legislative session a meaningful reform bill, H.3435, passed through the House and Senate committee only to be stopped by a procedural move in the final moments of the legislative session.

South Carolina’s sex education law, the Comprehensive Health Education Act (CHEA), hasn’t been updated in 26 years.  A study from 2013 showed that 75% of South Carolina public school districts are noncompliant with the current law, and are NOT required to teach information that is medically accurate. Clearly the CHEA needs amending to allow students to make informed choices about their health.

Here's where you come in.

This November, we have an opportunity to decide who we want to lead our state, yet none of the candidates have stated his or her position on reforming this 26-year-old law.

Sign Tell Them’s petition and ask the gubernatorial candidates: If these reforms made it to your desk as governor, would you sign a similar sex ed reform bill into law?
