Nimarata "Nikki" Randhawa Haley, born in 1972, is an American politician, diplomat, and businessperson. A member of the Republican Party, she made history as the first Indian American to serve in a presidential cabinet. Haley was the 116th governor of South Carolina from 2011 to 2017 and served as the 29th U.S. ambassador to the United Nations from January 2017 to December 2018. Before these roles, she was a member of the South Carolina House of Representatives from 2005 to 2011. Haley was a candidate in the 2024 Republican Party presidential primaries and achieved a historic victory by becoming the first woman to win a Republican Party presidential primary contest, winning the Washington, D.C. primary on March 3, 2024.
