The Issue

I am a resident of Lawndale, CA, and like many others in the communities of Lawndale and Redondo Beach, I am deeply concerned about the impending decision by the Los Angeles Metro Board to extend the Metro C-line alongside the existing freight line.

Check out this drone footage of the ROW vs. Hawthorne Blvd.

This would add two more tracks down our quiet, precious green space. The better option is to put the line three blocks east, elevated on Hawthorne Boulevard in our same city of Lawndale!

Comparing Hawthorne Blvd to the ROW

Instead, the board and local politicians are on the verge of choosing the option that would have devastating consequences for the communities of Lawndale & North Redondo Beach using the existing freight train Right Of Way (aka: ROW.) We need to tell them that this is NOT the locally-preferred light rail route of the C-line extension to Torrance!

Not a compromise

It is important to note that the ROW option is NOT what the South Bay wants, and Redondo Beach and the Hawthorne City Councils join Lawndale in opposition to using the ROW !

Our preference is for Metro to build on Hawthorne Boulevard. This choice would not only preserve our neighborhood green space and quality of life, but also provide efficient transportation solutions.

Youth says NO!

The ROW option would lead to two more sets of tracks squeezed in alongside the existing freight track next to Condon Avenue (the Row), destroying mature trees and our already limited green space, while disruption our quiet community with hundreds of Metro trains running day & night— right past our children’s bedrooms!

On the other hand, using Hawthorne Boulevard would allow for better integration with existing infrastructure while minimizing potential harm to residents' lives and properties.

It's crucial that we make our voices heard before this decision is adopted! We need your support in urging the Los Angeles Metro board to reconsider their plans and choose Hawthorne Boulevard instead of ROW for extending the Metro C-line.
