The Issue

For more than a decade, the Hefty ReNew program has provided a practical solution for individuals, families, schools, and businesses committed to keeping hard-to-recycle plastics out of landfills. At a time when plastic pollution remains a significant environmental challenge, programs like Hefty ReNew offer an accessible way for communities to make a measurable difference.

Over the past decade, participants in the ReNew program have helped divert more than 3,500 tons of hard-to-recycle plastics from landfills, demonstrating the power of the program.

Hefty ReNew has become an important resource for organizations pursuing waste reduction goals, providing one of the few recycling options for materials not accepted through traditional programs. Discontinuing ReNew would leave many participants in Arizona, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Nebraska, Ohio, and Tennessee without a viable alternative, sending more plastic to landfills while discouraging the thousands of people who have invested time and effort into adopting more sustainable habits.

As awareness of plastic waste continues to grow, successful programs like Hefty ReNew should be strengthened, not eliminated. By continuing the program, Hefty can reaffirm its commitment to environmental stewardship, support communities across nine states, and maintain an effective option for reducing waste.

Please join me in urging Hefty to continue the ReNew recycling program. Together, we can help keep hard-to-recycle plastics out of landfills, preserve a proven recycling solution, and encourage continued investment in sustainable waste management.
