Ask Google Maps and Waze to Include Wildlife Safety Features in Australia

The issue

As a representative of the NSW Wildlife Council, I am penning this petition to address a growing concern: the rising number of wildlife rescues on our roads from vehicle collisions. We Australians care deeply about our wildlife, and we believe that we can work together to leverage your innovative platforms to tackle this urgent issue.

Over the last year of our data, there have been over 50,000 animal rescues on NSW roads, and we believe the numbers of deaths of native species to be much higher than this number. Road-strikes are the number one reason our native animals require rescue and joeys are orphaned.

To make our roads safer and better protect our wildlife, we are communicating to Google and Waze our desire for wildlife safety features like real-time driver alerts for high-risk wildlife zones and a reporting feature for dead or injured wildlife.

By implementing these enhancements, we believe we can significantly reduce native animal collision casualties, lessen the burden on our volunteer rescuers and create safer roads for everyone.

We invite you to join us in this vital initiative! Thank you for your support!

Please, sign this petition and join us ask Google Maps and Waze to help us make Australian roads safer for everyone and protect our precious Australian wildlife.
