The Issue

I am a former parent of a student at Cesar Chavez Elementary School, as well as a member and past president of its School Site Council. I am utterly disgusted and appalled by the recent reports circulating about Cesar Chavez that have unfairly tarnished the reputation of a school that is home to amazing staff and a nurturing environment for our children's education. This shocking news not only stains the school's image but also contradicts the very principles it strives to instill in its students.

Cesar Chavez Elementary is more than just an institution; it is a community where children, teachers, and parents collaborate to create a positive atmosphere for learning and growth. The ongoing association with negative reports undermines years of hard work and dedication put in by the school authorities, educators, and parents alike.

By renaming the school, we have an opportunity to move forward and reinforce the values we hold dear. This change will restore confidence among parents, clarify the school's mission, and refocus attention on its strengths and achievements. A new name chosen by community consensus will represent hope, rejuvenation, and a commitment to a fresh start.

Bakersfield City School District has the chance to listen to the voices of those who have long supported this school and its mission. We firmly believe that renaming Cesar Chavez Elementary School will help heal the community, preserve its storied heritage, and project a forward-looking vision for future generations.

Sign this petition if you believe in maintaining a positive school environment for our children and want to ensure that our community thrives on shared values and accomplishments, not on misconceptions and controversy. Let’s work together to restore the pride and positivity of our cherished school.
