This memory has been etched in my mind as a glorious moment that shaped my passion for the sport. Leeds, Manchester, and other northern venues have a rich legacy of hosting some of the most memorable moments in cricket history.

With the recent announcement by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) to exclude the North of England from hosting a men's Ashes Test match in 2027, I feel compelled to express my concerns. This oversight not only affects cricket enthusiasts in the region but also undermines the rich cricketing tradition of the North. Having just watched the recent test match at Headingley between England and Pakistan, I am more convinced than ever that the North is an essential part of the cricket landscape.

The North boasts state-of-the-art facilities, passionate crowds, and a history of producing legendary cricketers who have represented England on the world stage. Over the years, venues like Headingley Stadium in Leeds and Old Trafford in Manchester have witnessed epic battles, becoming iconic in their own right. Host cities are not merely settings for the matches; they are hubs that energize local economies, promote tourism, and inspire the younger generation to pick up a bat and ball.

By revisiting the decision and potentially scheduling an additional Ashes Test match in either Leeds or Manchester, the ECB would demonstrate a commitment to promoting inclusivity in cricket. It would boost the sport in regions outside of London and the South, ensuring that fans from all parts of the country have the opportunity to be part of this prestigious series.
