Armed Guards
Armed Guards
The Issue
We, the parents, guardians, teachers, staff, and concerned community members of Glen Rock Schools request the authorization to arm our school security guards with firearms. Our children’s safety cannot wait.
Our security guards are not ordinary personnel—they are highly qualified retired police officers with over 20 years of active duty experience. Each has carried a firearm on the job daily and completed rigorous, ongoing firearms training, tactical response drills, and certification throughout their careers. They already possess the expertise, discipline, and proven judgment required to protect our schools.
Just days ago, our school received a threat that forced a lock down, disrupted learning, and left families terrified. This incident is a stark reminder that threats to our children are real and immediate. While every other school in our area has already armed its security guards to deter and respond to active threats, our school remains the only one without this critical protection. We refuse to be the vulnerable exception any longer.
Arming our experienced retired officers will:
• Provide an immediate, professional first line of defense against shooters, bombers, or other violent intruders.
• Deter potential attackers who know our campus is currently undefended.
• Ensure continuity of the same high level of protection our children deserve, matching every neighboring school.
We are not asking for new hires or untrained staff—we are simply asking to equip the trusted, veteran professionals already on our campus so they can fully protect our students and staff.
Therefore, we petition the Board to:
1. Approve the arming of our retired police officer security guards.
2. Provide the necessary firearms, holsters, and updated school-specific training protocols.
3. Implement this change ASAP no further delays.
Every day we wait puts our children at unnecessary risk. The time to act is now.
I support this petition and demand immediate action to arm our school security guards.
