We believe this may be the final public hearing. The Conservation Commission is still interested in hearing from you. We had 50 or more members of the public at the last meeting, and we need to do it again. If you are able to attend, please register at https://linkto.run/p/BHIRQ8DD.
The meeting will be this Thursday evening, Nov 1, at 8:15pm in the Mural Room in the Senior Center on 27 Maple Street.
Once again, we need your support to urge the Con Comm to reject the settlement with Seaver construction. If the plans are allowed to go through, it will result in two very large houses on the shores of Spy Pond, where there is currently a single small house. The developer wishes to convince the Con Comm that this ridiculous proposal is mitigated by extra plantings and a water infiltration system. This kind of short term thinking will only result in further stress on the pond over the longer term.
The Con Comm and town counsel has claimed that this settlement will not set a precedent, but that is an impossible promise. Developers will see this as a signal that Arlington's wetlands bylaws can be steamrolled with legal threats.
We are not against development. We are for thoughtful development around our precious wetlands. Please come on Thursday and show your support.
