Archbishop Etienne and Seattle Archdiocese have made the decision to merge and close Mt Virgin Church, our Parish Church, which started over 110 years ago in South Seattle. Their plan is to have this completed July 2022.
This petition has been created so that we can unite to change this decision which most do not agree with. 

Our Church is not in need and has not had to ask the Archdiocese for help.  It meets its needs every month.  Our Lady of Mt Virgin church sits on over 72,000+ sq ft of prime L2 Zoned (Multi Family Land)-and that does not even include the property that is across the Street to the East and the South. A suggested solution would be to sell off or develop some of this land so we can stay and not be merged.

This Church  is very important to so many people and is a huge part of the Italian history in Seattle as well as other immigrant communities- Laotian, Chinese, and Vietnamese. Mt Virgin IS the only one of its kind-an Immigrant Mission Church. There is no other in the Seattle area like it.  With more Immigrants coming in, there is a greater need for our Church to be here to welcome them. It is wrong and painful to see a very vulnerable community where English is not their first language being taken advantage of by the Seattle Archdiocese.
