Archbishop Broglio: US Vice President J.D. Vance should call for Gaza Ceasefire
The Issue
The ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza is horrible to see, and our country is enabling it with arms and money. President Trump campaigned on a promise to end war, yet he has maintained support for Israel's ongoing atrocities against civilians in Palestine. It would be admirable for Vice President J.D. Vance to echo today's (7/1/25) message from the Holy See, Pope Leo xiv and call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and all of Palestine.
The recent conversion of Vice President Vance to Catholicism and his audience with Pope Francis the day before the Pope's death represent a unique opportunity to focus on how private faith can impact public policy. When Pope Leo XIV, (shown with Vice President Vance and wife above) assumed the papacy, his first Sunday address called Gaza ceasefire.
Catholics collectively believe in upholding justice and protecting human life from terror. Therefore, we implore the Catholic Church to take a stand against these atrocities by directing Vance to show his active support a cease fire and mandated negotiation including sanctions for any further attacks on Gaza by the IDF.
The Catholic faith teaches us compassion as cited in the Biblical texts of Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Matthew. Our leaders who profess the Catholic faith should uphold these values too. Please sign this petition urging the Catholic Church to take action now!
