[APSU] Extend Friday April 29th Exam Concession to All Final Exams

The Issue

In light of the ransomware attack that began Wednesday, April 27th, Austin Peay students have faced uncertain circumstances at the most critical time of the semester, finals week.

Connectivity on campus and to essential online student services such as One-Stop, Outlook email, and One-Drive is compromised. Students who rely on campus for Wi-Fi, the Felix G. Woodward Library, the Writing Center, and other resources do not have access to them.

University leaders made the decision to cancel all final examinations scheduled for Friday, April 29th. Announcements were made instructing Professors to base final grades on coursework completed to date. Individuals who were relying on final exams to fulfill points in their grade were offered the opportunity of taking an incomplete and returning to complete coursework at an alternative date.

Austin Peay made a further announcement instructing students to continue to prepare for Final Exams as scheduled for next week. This announcement has no consideration for the students who can not access critical resources such as notes stored in One-Drive and internet connectivity without campus.

Only canceling one day of exams disproportionally impacts students with exams next week. We recognize the complexity in this level of decision making, but urge University officials to consider the impacts this may have.

In the name of fairness and equity, we ask that the concessions offered for the Friday, April 29th exams be extended to the remainder of exam week. All exams should be cancelled and students who were relying on final exams for points can reach out to their instructor to discuss completion.
