Approve the use of Waymo taxis in Boston

Approve the use of Waymo taxis in Boston
The Issue
I sign this petition to express my support for the introduction of Waymo autonomous taxis in the City of Boston.
Waymo in Boston has 3 main benefits.
-
Safety: Waymo is 85% safer than human drivers (study here). The increased safety is no longer debatable. This is especially important for women late at night who may prefer a driverless car instead of an Uber/Lift.
-
Education: Riding in Waymo help students and others in the region to understand what our AI future looks like (it truly is a transformational experience if you haven’t had a Waymo ride)
- Pride and Leadership: Boston has chance to be a top 5 global leader in AI and let's not look like technology luddites by being one fo the last cities to adopt autonomous vehicles. Recall that way back in 1976, the City of Cambridge welcome DNA/gene splitting with regulatory approval and it was one of the key drivers for the explosive growth of Life Sciences now around Kendall Square. Boston/Cambridge has a history of innovation and technical leadership.
Opposition to use of Waymo taxis (by the Boston Teamster union) is a missed opportunity, risking the potential for Boston to fall behind other innovative cities (Are Uber drivers even represented by the Teamsters?).
This petition was started by Paul Baier, president of non-profit AI Blueprint for MA.
I urge the City of Boston and the state of Massachusetts to approve the use of Waymo taxis.
