Hey Team --
One of our Rec Therapy friends who signed this petition got a response back from Chicken Soup. Their complaint is that there are simply not enough recreational therapists to make this book possible. They argue they need millions of people.
The market for this book is: Over one-million people
TRUE: There are 18,600 Recreational Therapists in the United States, according to the U.S. Dept. of Labor
AND there are a large number of allied professionals who associate with using Recreational Therapies and Activity-based interventions to help people with illness and disabilities to restore to their highest level of functioning.
These allied professionals include:
• Art Therapists – American Art Therapy Association
• Music Therapists – American Music Therapy Association
• Activity Directors – National Association of Activity Professionals
• Recreation workers – National Park and Recreation association
• Recreation service providers for people with disabilities – Special recreation association
• Rehabilitation therapists - Commission on rehabilitation counselor certification
• Equine-assisted therapists - American Hippotherapy Association
• Play Therapists - Association for Play Therapy
• Child Life Specialists – Child Life Council
• Aquatic Therapists
And let’s not limit the number to the United States alone.
There are Recreational Therapists in other countries, like Canada, Australia, and South Africa.
