Apple, Take a Stand Against Hate: Stop Advertising on Elon Musk's X

The Issue

To Apple Inc. and CEO Tim Cook,

We, the undersigned, urgently call on Apple Inc. to immediately halt all advertising on the social media platform X, owned by Elon Musk. Our plea is driven by the platform's increasingly concerning association with antisemitic content and its alleged role as a safe haven for neo-Nazis and white nationalists.

Recent reports have highlighted disturbing incidents where Elon Musk himself endorsed an antisemitic post on X, which attacked members of the Jewish community. This post, described by Musk as "the actual truth," perpetuates harmful stereotypes and conspiracy theories, including the discredited "great replacement theory".

Moreover, under Musk's ownership, X has been criticized for welcoming neo-Nazis back onto the platform, engaging with extremist content, and providing a space where hate speech against Jews, the LGBTQ+ community, and other minority groups thrives unchallenged.

It is alarming that a platform with such a significant global influence is becoming an echo chamber for hate speech and extremist ideologies. As a leader in technology and corporate responsibility, Apple Inc. has the power and the duty to take a stand against this. Your decision to cease advertising on X can send a strong message that hate speech and antisemitism have no place in our society.

We urge you to consider the impact of your advertising dollars and to align your advertising strategy with the values of diversity, inclusivity, and respect for all individuals. By taking action, Apple Inc. can contribute to the fight against online hate and set an example for other corporations to follow.

Other companies have already taken a stand. As reported on Friday, November 17, 2023, IBM said in a statement shared with outlets that it "has zero tolerance for hate speech and discrimination, and we have immediately suspended all advertising on X while we investigate this entirely unacceptable situation."

Furthermore, here is a list of companies that have stopped advertising with X because of the promotion of hate speech. While the list is not exhaustive, it should bring your attention to the severity of the situation.
