Diolch am eich neges at Weinidog y Gymraeg a Chysylltiadau Rhyngwladol ar 28 Mehefin ynglŷn â helpu cwmnïau i gefnogi’r Gymraeg ar ffonau symudol. Gofynnwyd i mi ymateb ar ei rhan.

Diolch am eich sylwadau am y Cynllun Gweithredu Technoleg Cymraeg. Ysgogi’r prif gwmnïau technoleg yw un o’r themâu, ac holl athroniaeth ein cynllun yw ein bod yn creu cydrannau y gellid eu rhannu gyda chwmnïau. Bellach mae gennym fanc o adnoddau technoleg iaith i gynnig i gwmnïau mawr dan drwydded agored ganiataol. Rwy’n amgáu gwybodaeth am rai o’r pethau sydd ar y gorwel.

Yn ddiweddar, roeddem yn gallu cyfeirio IBM at yr adnoddau hyn er mwyn eu helpu gydag ychwanegu peiriant cyfieithu Cymraeg i Saesneg at eu gwasanaeth IBM Watson Translate. Rydym wrth gwrs yn hapus felly i estyn yr un cymorth i gwmnïau mawr eraill, ac rydym yn
cynnal deialog cyson gyda nifer o gwmnïau.

Thank you for your message to the Minister for International Relations and the Welsh Language on 28 June regarding helping companies to support the Welsh language on mobile phones. I was asked to respond on her behalf. 22/07/2020

Thank you for your comments about the Welsh Language Technology Action Plan. Encouraging technology companies to use more Welsh is one of the plan’s purposes. We have therefore funded the development of infrastructure we can share with companies. We have now built up a bank of language technology resources to offer to large companies to
use under permissive open licence. I enclose some information about the next wave of releases.

We were recently able to refer IBM to these resources to help them with the addition of a Welsh to English machine translator to their IBM Watson Translate service. We are only too happy to extend the same support to other companies, and we are in regular dialogue with a number of companies.
