Appeal to SEBI: Recognizing ASTA's Valuable Role in Retail Trader Education

The Issue

We, the undersigned students and alumni of Avadhut Sathe Trading Academy (ASTA, a Stock Market Training Institute), stand in full support of ASTA.

ASTA has never provided investment advisory services [IA], research analysis service [RA] or solicited funds from us. We were never given any buy or sell calls for any stock and we were always discouraged from trading in penny stocks. ASTA delivers pure educational training to empower aspiring traders/investors like us with knowledge, discipline, and independence.

We joined ASTA as students, solely to learn from ASTA and not to receive any tips/advisory - we request SEBI to recognize this distinction.

Our Experience as ASTA Student:

  • We enrolled in ASTA's programs explicitly for education, paying fees for training courses that teach technical analysis, risk management, and trading psychology.
  • At no point did ASTA promise returns, recommend specific trades, or handle our money; we always traded independently using our own accounts and judgment.
  • ASTA's curriculum emphasizes using options strategies to manage risk, to be independent and not rely on tips/advisory which has helped us become informed and responsible traders.
  • During the course duration, few Live Market Training (not Trading) sessions were also conducted. These sessions were conducted once the students had a good understanding of charts after spending many hours undergoing Concepts Sessions, Tests, Assignments, etc.
  • The Live Market Training sessions were not to ask us "WHAT" to buy or sell but "HOW TO" arrive at a decision to buy/sell.
  • ASTA's pedagogical approach with the Live Market Training on HOW TO to follow the step-by-step analysis checklist and reach at a decision to enter into the market, HOW TO follow Risk Management, HOW not be carried away with emotions while being in a trade, etc. immensely helps a student to develop a trader's mindset.

Endorsement of ASTA's Educational Efficacy

  •  ASTA imparts rigorous discipline through comprehensive modules addressing market dynamics, psychological resilience, and sustainable trading practices—indispensable for achieving financial  autonomy.
  • Vast number of students learned trading skills from ASTA Trainers so they could trade independently on their own.
  • Misclassifying ASTA as an investment advisor harms bona fide educational institutes and limits fair access to key training for retail traders across India.
  • Right from day one of the course we were advised not to take any shortcuts and invest at least 1000 active days of practice to become  proficient.
  • ASTA has transformed our understanding of trading and supported our journey toward financial self-sufficiency. ASTA operates with integrity, transparency, and ethical intent. Skill development is the sole objective!

Benefits for India's Markets

ASTA has empowered thousands to become responsible, informed traders—aligning perfectly with SEBI's goals for a mature retail trading ecosystem.

Our Humble Appeal to SEBI

We respectfully seek:

  1. Affirmation of ASTA's educational focus and efforts to strengthen retailer education program
  2. Clear regulatory distinctions between Stock market TRAINING and Advisory Services.
  3. Endorsement of programs like ASTA's that foster disciplined, independent trading.

Together, we can strengthen India's trading community.
