Appeal the OCR MEI B maths paper 1
Appeal the OCR MEI B maths paper 1
The Issue
I recently sat for the OCR MEI B Maths Paper 1, and it was exceptionally difficult compared to previous years'. My friends who took it alongside me and countless others we've seen online agree—this year's paper was notably more challenging, and we believe it warrants an official appeal.
In past years, OCR (Oxford, Cambridge and RSA Examinations) has set Maths papers that are challenging yet fair, reflecting the syllabus and the preparation that students undergo. However, this year's MEI B Maths Paper 1 seemed disproportionately difficult, leaving many students feeling unprepared, despite diligent study and preparation.
A fair exam should test knowledge and understanding, ensuring that students who have worked hard are rewarded appropriately. The unexpected difficulty of this paper could potentially affect our grades and future opportunities in further studies or career paths. It's not just about a minor setback but a significant barrier due to factors seemingly beyond our control.
It's vital to address this issue to ensure fairness and integrity in the examination process. We urge OCR to review the content and level of difficulty of the MEI B Maths Paper 1, compare it with previous years' papers, and consider appealing the results accordingly.
We believe that an appeal could lead to a review of the grading scheme or even an adjustment of grade boundaries, ensuring that a fair reflection of students' abilities is presented in our final results. This is not just for those of us who sat this paper, but for future cohorts who rely on the consistency and reliability of the examination process.
We kindly ask all students, parents, educators, and others in the academic field to support us in this cause. Please sign this petition to help us bring this issue to the attention of OCR and seek a fair outcome for all affected students.
