Dear City Council Members and Planning Commission,

I am writing this appeal not only as an individual but as a single mother and fully qualified counselor, deeply connected to the divine source and committed to social justice. Like many others, I am currently without permanent housing. This personal challenge has only highlighted the urgent need for solutions to the housing insecurity many of us face. It is with this in mind that I advocate for the adoption of tiny homes, fully compliant with an updated zoning code, as a practical and compassionate solution.

Tiny homes, while modest in square footage, provide full functionality and offer a viable response to our community's housing crisis. These dwellings have the potential to alleviate the strain on our housing market, providing affordable, sustainable, and environmentally friendly living options. I urge the City Council and Planning Commission to consider revising the zoning code to allow for the construction and legal occupancy of tiny homes in our area.

By amending the zoning regulations, we can create a safe and accessible path for individuals and families who are struggling with housing insecurity. Tiny homes have been successfully implemented in numerous communities across the country, offering not only shelter but also fostering stronger, more resilient neighborhoods. I believe this can be replicated in our own community, helping those in need while supporting a more sustainable and inclusive future.

Tiny homes can be classified as Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs), and special use permits could allow them to serve as primary residences. This approach supports simple, mindful living while addressing the ongoing housing shortage and providing homeowners with cost-effective and flexible alternatives.

I respectfully ask for your support in making tiny homes a legal and viable housing option in Will County, Illinois. Everyone deserves a safe and stable place to call home, and tiny homes can be a part of that solution.
