The Issue

We, the undersigned parents and guardians of students enrolled in Sir John Wilson School, Dhaka, respectfully come together to formally express our deep concern regarding the school’s practice of raising tuition fees every year. We are humbly requesting that the school authority reconsider and reverse this decision, and maintain the current tuition fee rates for the upcoming academic year and beyond.

While we fully acknowledge and appreciate the school’s commitment to providing quality education, we believe that an automatic yearly increase in tuition fees is neither reasonable nor sustainable for the majority of families in our community. We raise the following specific concerns:

1.  Financial Hardship on Families: A recurring yearly increase places an unreasonable financial burden on parents and guardians, many of whom are already managing the rising costs of living, household expenses, and other educational needs of their children.

2.  Compounded Burden for Families with Multiple Children: For parents who have more than one child enrolled at the school, the impact of yearly fee increases is felt even more severely. Each increase is multiplied across every child, making it increasingly difficult for such families to sustain their children’s education at Sir John Wilson School. This places these families in an especially vulnerable position and deserves particular consideration.

3.  Lack of Proportionality: A yearly fee increase far exceeds the general inflation rate and wage growth experienced by most working families. This creates a growing disparity between what families can afford and what is being charged.

4.  Absence of Transparency: Parents have not been provided with a clear, itemized justification for these increases. We respectfully request a detailed breakdown of how the additional revenue is being utilized to directly improve the quality of education and facilities available to our children.

5.  Risk of Educational Disruption: For some families, continued increases may make it impossible to keep their children enrolled, disrupting the children's education and sense of community within the school.

6.  No Prior Consultation: The consistent fee increases have been imposed without meaningful consultation or dialogue with parents. We believe that decisions of this magnitude should involve the school community, not simply be communicated as a fait accompli.

Our Request

In light of the above, we collectively and respectfully request that the school authority:

•  Immediately reverse the current decision to increase tuition fees and maintain the existing fee structure for the upcoming academic year.

•  Commit to a fee freeze or, at a minimum, limit any future adjustments to levels that are fair, transparent, and in line with general economic indicators.

•  Establish an open and transparent process for any future fee reviews, including meaningful consultation with a parent representatives' committee before any decision is finalized.

•  Provide a full and itemized financial disclosure of how tuition fees are allocated and how increases benefit the student body.

•  Schedule a formal meeting with parent representatives within the next 30 days to discuss this matter openly and collaboratively.

We wish to emphasize that this collective appeal is not an act of opposition to the school, but rather a sincere expression of our desire to work together in the best interests of our children and our school community. We remain committed to supporting the school’s mission and are hopeful that our concerns will be received with the seriousness and care they deserve.

We appreciate your time and consideration of this matter and look forward to a constructive and transparent dialogue with the school leadership.
