APermanent Memorial for Victims of Homicide and support for their families

The Issue

Too many families in our community know what it feels like to get the worst phone call of their lives.

A knock on the door. A call from the police. A life forever changed by homicide.

When someone is murdered, the victim is not the only one who suffers. Research from the Office for Victims of Crime shows that each homicide leaves behind an average of 7–10 surviving family members and loved ones whose lives are deeply affected by trauma, grief, and long-term emotional and psychological impacts. These survivors are often called “co-victims.”

Parents lose children, Children grow up without parents, Siblings, grandparents, and entire families carry the pain for the rest of their lives.

Yet after the headlines fade and the court cases move on, families are often left feeling invisible. Our community needs a place that says clearly:

We remember them.

We honor them.

Their lives mattered.

That is why we are calling for the creation of a Memorial Wall for Victims of Homicide in Sacramento—a permanent place where families can remember their loved ones and where our community can acknowledge the true impact of violence. The Sacramento District Attorney’s Office has already expressed support for this effort, and we also have two city representatives who stand behind it. We are now seeking the support of local businesses and local non profits to step forward and join us in recognizing the importance of honoring victims and supporting the families who must carry this loss every single day.

A memorial wall will not take away the pain, but it will give families something many of them never receive after homicide:

Recognition.

Dignity.

A place to grieve

So I need your help let's show those in office that we want this for our loved ones.

Please share and sign the petition because every victim deserves to be remembered!!

If you would like to partner with US please reach out.

This effort is also inspired by the life of Michelle Benavidez, whose memory continues to inspire advocacy and community healing through BumbleBear Coffee and ongoing work supporting families impacted by homicide.
