The issue

We, the undersigned, call for a national ban on pornography in Australia. Despite claims of “restricted access,” pornography is readily available to anyone—including children—with just a simple online search. This is not regulation; it’s negligence. The psychological damage of pornography is well-documented: it fuels addiction, distorts views of intimacy, undermines healthy relationships, and encourages emotional detachment and sexual aggression. Adults may claim personal freedom, but when that freedom directly results in the widespread exposure of children and the normalization of harm, it becomes a public crisis—not a private choice

Why banning pornography entirely would make sense:

  1. Protection of mental health and relationships

Studies show that because of pornography mental health and relationships are being affected negatively. Pornography has ties to things like emotional numbness, decreased empathy and intimacy, unrealistic expectations of sex and more.

      2. Protecting exposure to children and adolescents

Children are currently being exposed to porn as early as age 9 or 10, long before they can comprehend what they’re seeing. Banning porn would send a clear message that this content does not belong in normal human development.

       3. Reduces demand for exploitative industry practices

Banning pornography  puts more pressure on on things like human trafficking, psychological harm to the performers, (especially women). Banning it will put an end to an industry that benefits of human vulnerability.
