SAY NO TO PROVIDENCE POINT DEVELOPMENT

SAY NO TO PROVIDENCE POINT DEVELOPMENT
The Issue
We want you to vote NO on the proposed Villages of Providence Point development which will destroy acres and acres of primary forest, create numerous traffic infrastructure problems, be hazardous to the Bay and the local environment and severely impact our way of life.
There are multiple reasons this development is a terrible idea for the microenvironment of the Forest Drive corridor and for the greater Annapolis area. It fails on numerous points that include:
· Cutting down a mature forest under the fallacious premise that planting a few saplings in concrete islands will have an equal mitigating impact and provide the same benefit as trees which have survived for decades.
· Disturbing/destroying a meadow, which is a unique, separate and beneficial environment, to plant the required new trees under the replacement policy
· Further disintegration of the pervious surface area surrounding the Bay and its tributaries which greatly impacts stormwater and the health of the world’s largest estuary (Chesapeake Bay)
· Decrease in air quality due to further congestion in the region
In addition this development disrespects members of the African American community who live nearby and who will be severely impacted by roads cutting through their neighborhoods. This proposed develpoment is also not being held to comply with the City's Moderately Priced Dwelling Unit ordinance which is required to maintain residential equity for our underserved citizens. In combination with the recently approved Primrose School project the combined traffic load will overwhelm local roads.
Say NO and help us preserve the forest! Annapolitians need more green spaces not more concrete!
