Build Training Shelters For Indie Pups To Maximise Their Chances Of Getting Adopted

Build Training Shelters For Indie Pups To Maximise Their Chances Of Getting Adopted

The Issue

Shaming people who ask to adopt pedigree or foreign dog breeds is a common occurrence on dog adoption groups across social media. I too, to be honest, would often be disappointed in people who would not willingly want to adopt Indie pups.

This one time, however, I came across a post by someone who was being openly judged for not wanting to adopt an Indie pup that read, 'I tried fostering one, but it was too aggressive' - and I related to that.

Having had an Indie baby at home, I know this breed needs extra understanding than say, a Golden Retriever or a Labrador. But that is because we as a nation have always referred to Indian dogs as 'street dogs', so by default - pedigrees became pets, and Indies became 'strays'.

This lack of respect and provisions towards our own breeds, has obviously led to way too much neglect and harassment towards Indian pups, thus making them more anxious and territorial than most foreign breeds.

Even when adopted, their survival instincts are stronger than their will to adapt to the comforts of a home.

I, therefore urge all of you reading this, to sign my petition in order to make The Animal Welfare Board of India act upon my demand of building shelters for Indie pups imparting basic behavioural training, so that people adopt 'desi' breeds without being afraid of them, and the process of adoption can also be more streamlined.
