In a court case that started in 2016, one man was indicted for running a nationwide dog fighting ring from Albuquerque. This was a well-organized ring with videos, photos and even magazines. The dog ring involved pit bulls raised and trained to fight.According to a 2017 court document, the FBI took “14 pit bull type dogs, 1,000 photos of other dogs, dogfighting videos, books and magazines. They also found steroids, syringes, and IVs containing canine blood.

The court case is still ongoing but we sure hope that the punishment will be so severe and so overarching that it will constitute a good deterrent. Dog fighting is one of the most cruel things to do to a dog.

All fighting dogs are conditioned from a very early age and the scope and method of training varies dramatically depending on the level and experience of the dog-fighter. Usually, dogs have very heavy chains wrapped around their necks to build neck and upper body strength by constantly bearing the immense weight of the chains, and sometimes weights are often affixed to chains and dangled from the dogs’ necks. Generally, dogs are permanently chained this way.  To cultivate the animal's killing instinct, other animals, including weaker dogs, are tied up while the dogs tear them apart or sometimes they are confined in an area to be chased and mauled by the dogs. The dogs are trained against one another and against older, more experienced dogs.

Although it is a felony offense in all 50 states, organized dog fighting still takes place in many parts of the country. Fights can last just a few minutes or several hours. Both animals may suffer injuries, including puncture wounds, lacerations, blood loss, crushing injuries and broken bones. Although fights are not usually to the death, many dogs succumb to their injuries later. Losing dogs are often discarded, killed or simply left with their injuries untreated. If the losing dog is seen as an embarrassment to its owner, it may be executed in a particularly brutal fashion as part of the entertainment.

DOG FIGHTING HAS TO END AND WE INVITE YOU TO SIGN THIS PETITION TO JOIN HANDS WITH THE ASPCA, THE HUMANE SOCIETY, THE ANIMAL LEGAL DEFENSE FUND AND PEOPLE FOR THE ETHICAL TREATMENT OF ANIMALS TO VOICE AGAINST IT AND PARTICIPATE IN ITS TOTAL DISMANTLING. PLEASE SHARE.
