RE: Animal Cruelty and Animal Pets Abandonment

I am writing this with a very heavy heart and hoping that after reading this some strict action will be taken to lessen both animal cruelty and pet abandonment. Being an animal lover and having worked with some animal ngos I know how it feels to see an animal facing cruelty and being abandoned and its just not me but hundreds of others who day and night work selflessly towards the betterment of animals which they rescue and come to their shelter.

Of late a number of disturbing videos are floating on Facebook and other social media’s where one can see cruelty towards pets by either the servant or petwalker where the poor pet is being dragged, hit ,kicked and this is being recorded yet no action is being taken against the culprit. The recent incident of a pet being abused in a well known pet clinic by the staff was again recorded but no action taken as usual.

Another disturbing video is that of pets and dogs beings pulled by a rope or leash and made to run along with their owners who are driving a car or riding a bike at full speed the poor animal is unable to keep up with the vehicle, being dragged, and sometime it dies a bloody death on the road and all this is being posted in the social media and in some you can hear people laughing and cheering.

The other day I saw a video of an animal van catching stray dogs..the scene was heart wrenching the poor animal was held by the neck by a pair of tongs while another man held its two legs and the poor animal was struggling to get free and one could see it was in pain and bleeding through the mouth …but once again people were mute spectators taking videos and posting them.

What is shameful is we as humans have reached a stage in life were these things do not matter to us any more and we use thes innocent animals merely as a means of entertainment and fail to see the pain agony and torture the animal is going through. We have become so inhuman that we see these animals as toys and get joy seeing them in pain …

The same applies to the sudden increase of abandoned pets… shelters are overflowing with unwanted pets which owners bring to their homes intially because their children insist,status symbols or mere fancy, after some time they find them burdensome and want to do away with them and conveniently leave them outside a shelter and worse on the roads to die a slow painful death. 

The reasons given are absurd… children are allergic, we are shifting, wife is expecting , it is dirting the house, aggressive etc the list is never ending. Ask any animal lover or rescuer who are bombarded daily with such calls where owners are desperate to wash their hands off…they need to understand that when you bring in a pet from that day it is your responsibilty to take care care of it, look after it till the end..saddest is abandoning aged dogs when they need you the most. The look on their faces, tears in their eyes, longing for their owners is a sight every animal rescuer has gone through and are going through daily and many a times they die a slow painful death.

On behalf of all the animal lovers, rescuers I request you to please look into this matter seriously and make amendments or strict laws to punish offenders and give strict warning to owners about pet abandonment. These animals have an equal right to live equally with us and we as humans should never deny them their right to live.

Let us for a change stop being INHUMAN and become HUMAN for our friends.
