Animal Cruelty

The Issue

Whilst a general all round animal lover, my current main focus has been meat labelling and the law.It is now becoming more commonly known that Halal meat products are on the shelves of major supermarkets.
Also, many schools, hospitals, and restaurants. etc, purchase these products, knowingly or unknowingly.
Many, if not most of the slaughterhouses in this country are run by Muslims.
And, there is a strong connection also between the slaughter of animals in both the Halal and Kosher methods.
Those are the facts which most of the public are not aware of.

My wife and I were raised in the Christian faith but are now Atheist, with no prejudice whatsoever against any religious creed.
We are not racist in any way, but simply wish to erase and enforce by law, any form of animal cruelty.
If others wish to call us racist because of our views, we simply do not care.

Whatever the intricacies of worship and prayer in connection with the slaughter of animals, that is not in question.
Christians will say a prayer of thanks prior to eating a meal; so if Muslims wish to say a prayer during the act of slaughter that is fine.
What I/we will not subscribe to is the killing of domestic animals that have not been fully stunned.
It is important that a law is in place that defines exactly how an animal is killed.

To ban Halal and Kosher meat as some would suggest, is not the way forward. It is not the complete answer.
It is well known that there are many variables in the term 'stunned', and in many cases it doesn't mean fully stunned.
In order that an animal suffers no pain whatsoever in the process, the law must state the following :
That...... the animal needs to be fully stunned into irreversible unconsciousness before it is slaughtered.
That is what the law should say and words to that effect clearly stated on all commercially sold meat products.

If I can get enough support, my aim is first to get my local MP to put this petition to the correct minister in the Government. To have any chance of real action I need at least 10,000 signatures. Please help me to stop this widespread cruelty.
